DTC is the venture arm for Dell Technologies investing in innovative early-stage companies, providing crucial business guidance and access to Dell’s channel. We invest >$100M each year in storage, networking, DevOps, silicon, data, security, IOT, edge, and ML/AI companies.
Over the past 10 years, I’ve focused on DevOps — investing as an angel and as a partner at Toba Capital. By specializing in technologies that continue to thrill, I’ve been able to make better predictions, better help companies accelerate their growth, and build a wonderful network of like minded professionals. Investments included InfoQ (4 million monthly developers and their QCon’s are the best), Sourcegraph, Zero Turnaround (acquired by Roguewave), Sauce Labs (just raised $50M series E), WSO2 (600 employees strong!), and Codenvy (acquired by Red Hat and the largest cloud IDE).
I’m excited to continue my work investing in developer-related companies. DTC was a natural fit for my interests — Dell has access to significant resources and maintains multiple far reaching thesis that place developers, developer infrastructure, and DevOps companies as essential innovators in the next generation of enterprise IT driven by 5G, edge, IoT, and mixed reality.
Corporate VCs are now recognized as top tier and attractive investors for entrepreneur— investing with terms similar to financial investors, but accelerating portfolio company growth by opening access to additional resources and channels. Investing is an essential way for companies to plug into the ecosystem in a market where the pace of change is stunning.
Dell’s DevOps portfolio is already filled with incredible companies. This includes JFrog, Redis Labs, MongoDB, Tetrate (Istio), MinIO, (S3 storage) and OpsMX (Spinnaker).
On the PR news wire this morning is an update on DTC’s traction — with more than 100 portfolio companies, nearly 50 exits, and a growing group of DTC investors, DTC is becoming one of the world’s most prolific enterprise investment firms.
